Kernel vs Traction Complete

Kernel vs Traction Complete: entity identity or Salesforce workflow automation?

Traction Complete automates account hygiene, routing, deduplication, and hierarchy workflows inside Salesforce. It works on CRM records and data supplied by third-party providers.

Kernel starts one layer deeper. It maintains its own agentic entity database and assigns a universal KERN ID to legal entities, brands, sites, operating units, and business units. Kernel resolves which real-world entity each CRM record represents, maps the relationships between those entities, and continuously maintains that data through native Salesforce integration.

If your source data is already accurate and you need to automate Salesforce workflows, Traction Complete may fit. If your CRM cannot reliably identify an account, its parent, its operating group, or whether two records represent the same entity, Kernel addresses the underlying data problem.

Kernel and Traction Complete solve different layers of the problem

A CRM record is not the same thing as a company. One organization can appear under a legal name, trading name, regional domain, product brand, branch office, or business unit. Automating a hierarchy does not resolve those identities first.

Traction Complete is a Salesforce-native application layer for workflow automation and rule-based data management. Its hierarchy and hygiene workflows depend on the CRM records and third-party data supplied to them.

Kernel is the identity and entity intelligence layer. It matches CRM records to a persistent entity database, assigns a KERN ID, reasons across structured and unstructured evidence, and maintains the resulting hierarchy over time. Revenue teams can then review and execute merge, associate, and delete actions from a verified entity foundation.

Feature comparison

Core capability Kernel Traction Complete
Entity infrastructure Owned, agentic entity database with universal ID (KERN). No proprietary database; operates on CRM data and third-party providers.
Entity coverage Legal and non-legal entities, including brands, sites, operating units, and business units. Account-level CRM records; no independent entity model.
Hierarchy foundation and control Deep hierarchies built with Kernel's own data, with associations under your control. Hierarchy automation built on a third party for source data.
Hierarchy resolution and maintenance Agent-driven discovery, correction, and continuous maintenance. Automated hierarchy building and visualization, dependent on underlying CRM data accuracy.
Data management model Continuous data accuracy through CRM integration and agentic feedback loops. Workflow automation and rule-based data management inside Salesforce.
CRM integration model Native Salesforce integration with embedded feedback signals. Salesforce-native application layer.
AI capabilities and reasoning depth Agentic reasoning grounded in entity identity, with transparent explanations. AI-assisted matching, routing, and deduplication workflows; no underlying entity intelligence layer.

What an independent entity model changes

One identity across inconsistent records

Kernel resolves ambiguous records to a 10-digit KERN ID using legal name, country of incorporation, trading name, identity type, trading country, website, email domain, address, and the relationships between entities. The resolution process uses both structured CRM fields and unstructured context from websites, filings, PDFs, and other public sources.

This creates a stable identity even when records are messy, overlapping, or named differently across regions.

Hierarchies based on how companies operate

Kernel can map immediate parents, global ultimate parents, global operating parents, brands, establishments, business units, and regional subsidiaries. That lets a revenue team organize accounts around ownership and operating relationships rather than a single Salesforce parent field.

Data that stays accurate after cleanup

Kernel integrates directly with the CRM. Teams can review and execute merge, associate, and delete decisions, then feed corrections back into the entity layer. The CRM is maintained against verified entities rather than cleaned once and allowed to decay again.

When to choose Kernel

Choose Kernel when one or more of these statements describes your CRM:

  • The same company appears under different legal names, domains, brands, or regional records.

  • Parent and subsidiary relationships cannot be trusted for routing, territory allocation, or account ownership.

  • Different enrichment providers return conflicting firmographic or hierarchy data.

  • Teams need an operating hierarchy that includes brands, sites, business units, and regional subsidiaries.

  • RevOps needs a reason and source trail behind each match, hierarchy, and cleaning recommendation.

  • Account data needs continuous maintenance, not another one-time cleanup.

When Traction Complete may fit

Traction Complete may fit when your account identities and source data are already trusted, and the primary need is to automate Salesforce workflows such as routing, deduplication, hierarchy visualization, and rule-based data management.

The decision comes down to the starting problem. If the records are accurate and the workflow is manual, automate the workflow. If the workflow is acting on inaccurate or ambiguous records, resolve the entities first.

How Kernel works inside Salesforce

Kernel matches each account to its entity database and assigns a KERN ID. The CRM can then hold verified hierarchy type, parent account, firmographic fields, entity classifications, and cleaning recommendations, with linkages back to the associated KERN IDs for traceability.

At n8n, Kernel started with enterprise accounts and existing customers, where hierarchy mapping could expose expansion opportunities. The RevOps team reviews merge and associate actions in the Kernel application, while safeguard rules protect accounts with open opportunities. Accurate hierarchies and firmographics now help route the right accounts to the right sales reps.

“My preference for our source of truth is Kernel because it's the easiest way. It's a tool that I have under my control. I already trust it and it's super easy to integrate.”

Jorge LopezRevenue Operations, n8n

At GWI, Kernel supplies entity data, hierarchies, and firmographics aligned to the company's regional go-to-market structure. Kernel has been live in GWI's CRM since November 2025 and was delivered in time for financial-year territory allocation in February 2026.

“The data that Kernel gives us, and the reasoning behind it, is better than anything else we have.”

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between Kernel and Traction Complete?

Traction Complete is a Salesforce-native application layer for account hygiene, routing, deduplication, hierarchy automation, and rule-based data management. Kernel is an entity identity and data management platform built on its own agentic entity database. Kernel resolves CRM records to KERN IDs, constructs verified hierarchies, and continuously maintains the data used by downstream workflows.

Is Kernel just a data provider?

No. Kernel combines an owned entity database, agentic identity resolution, hierarchy construction, CRM integration, and data management actions. RevOps teams can review and execute merge, associate, and delete decisions from the same verified entity foundation.

Does Kernel work with Salesforce's native account hierarchy?

Yes. Kernel integrates directly with Salesforce, but it is not limited to a single native parent field. It can maintain immediate parent, global ultimate parent, global operating parent, brand, establishment, business unit, and regional subsidiary relationships, then write the relevant fields and associations into the CRM.

Does Kernel depend on third-party entity data?

Kernel maintains its own entity database and universal KERN ID. Agents use registries, company websites, regulatory filings, PDFs, public sources, CRM context, and entity relationships to resolve and verify identities.

Can Kernel and Traction Complete be used together?

They address different layers. Kernel can provide the verified entity identity and hierarchy foundation, while a Salesforce workflow tool can act on that data. Whether both are needed depends on which routing, deduplication, visualization, and workflow functions the existing CRM stack already covers.

Which product should I choose?

Choose Traction Complete when the source data is trusted and the main problem is Salesforce workflow automation. Choose Kernel when the source data itself is incomplete, conflicting, or unable to represent the companies and operating relationships your revenue team sells to.
